Just over a month after beginning her duties as president of the University of Regina Students' Union (URSU), Haanim Nur has resigned.

The reason given for the resignation, which was announced this week, was "personal."

According to a press release issued by URSU, regular operations will continue as usual, with Michael Young, the current vice-president of student affairs, assuming the president's position until a by-election is held sometime in the fall – as per the URSU constitution and by-laws.

The URSU board of directors will determine the details of the election.

Nur was elected with 32.9 per cent of the vote as part of the Students First slate, beating out UR Innovation's Nathan Sgrazzutti and Nick Faye, who ran independently.

Last year, Nur served as the vice-president of operations and finance.
