Students line up for the new restaurant serving Indian food on campus
With Da India Curry House (DICH) now open for business, students across campus have been lining up to try the food. For some people, they will have tried this cuisine beforehand, for others, it would be their very first time.
“I personally have always enjoyed trying new foods, so I’m excited to eat some new food and see if I like it,” said James Bao, third year business student.
Bao added that because institutions like universities are diverse places that bring people from across the world, it is nice to see more cultural options on campus.
“Opening more diverse food spots is great because it gives students the opportunity to taste food from their homelands,”Bao said.
DICH is one of the several international food spots like Gong Cha. In addition to this, Liang’s Kitchen, a Chinese, Szechuan, and Thai cuisine restaurant is expected to soon be open in the Riddell Centre.
Students expect more options
The Carillon asked students what other cultural food spots they would like to have on campus. Daniel Abiola, a third year engineering student, said it would be nice to have a Nigerian food option.
“I was born in Nigeria, and so growing up, I ate Nigerian food. I love it, but not many places here in Regina offer it, so it would be nice for the university to build some African food spots,” said Abiola.
Abiola expressed that because there is a large number of students who study here from Nigeria and other African countries, it would diversify the university even further.

Are there enough healthy options?
U of R’s campus is expanding with the newly constructed AdHum pit, Trifon’s, and now DICH. Although students are enjoying these new spots, many have said they would like to see healthier options.
“My biggest issue with the food currently on campus is that it’s all fried and heavy foods. It would be nice to have another type of pita pit or something along those lines,” said second year education student, Hailey Turner.
Students like Turner expressed that greasy fried foods are good once in a while but aren’t meant to be consumed regularly.
“I don’t hate the options we currently have, but because I’m very cautious with what I eat. It would be nice to have a vegetarian or vegan food place, or something that isn’t just fried foods,” Turner added.
Having spoken to students, we understand that while they think the university is doing a great job with renovations and adding more options of food places, they feel that there are areas in which they can further improve.
For now, we hope that Da India Curry House will fulfil your craving for butter chicken and other Indian dishes!
