These guys are rockin’ and rollin’ hard in Regina

The Jump Off. This lovely local Regina rock band hasn’t jumped off the deep end, but they haven’t yet jumped into the music industry. However, that’s not something to be ashamed of. Sometimes just doing what you love is more important than getting super recognized for it.

Anyway, who makes up The Jump Off? Let me tell you: Eric Trylinski (vocals, guitar, keys), Greg Jessup (bass, keys), and Donovan Lautsch (vocals, drums, keys).

This stellar group of 3 graciously granted me some answers to my ridiculous questions in this week’s edition of the Regina Band Interview Series.

What first got you interested in music?

Donovan Lautsch: All of our parents had good record collections.

How did your band get into the music industry?

DL: I don’t think we are in.

What are your future goals as a band?

DL: Release the album we’re currently writing and do some more touring.

Eric Trylinski: Get a minivan.

What is the meaning of life?

DL: “Well, it’s nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.” – Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life

What is your definition of true love?

DL: One time we were asked who the cutest member of the band was, and we all replied with different members. We experienced true love that day.

Do you prefer reading fiction or non-fiction books?

ET: Fiction

DL: I like switching back and forth between the two.

Greg Jessup: Non-Fiction

Which superhero do you look up to the most?

DL: Probably The Swamp Thing.

If you could eliminate one of the 10 commandments, which one would you eliminate?

DL: “Thou shall not make unto thee any graven images.” It doesn’t even make any sense.

What are your greatest failures?

DL: We attempted to drive to and from Edmonton in the same day and ended up spending the night in Mannville.

What are your greatest successes?

ET: About this time last year, we released our debut full-length album.

GJ: All of our album release shows.

Who are your favourite sports teams?

DL: Chicago Enforcers.

GJ: Orlando Rage.

ET: Los Angeles Xtreme.

What musicians inspire you the most?

ET: Devo.

DL: Gang of Four.

GJ: Mclusky.

Would you like your life to end with a fairy tale or tragic ending?

DL: Don’t most of the original fairy tales end in tragedy?

Do you like cats?

DL: No.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

DL: Cats.

Why is the sky blue?

DL: Three-dimensional holographic laser projections beamed all over the planet by a Soviet super computer. I am not sure who decided on blue though.

What physical aspects of yourself are you most proud of?

ET: Greg’s hair.

DL: Greg’s hair.

GJ: My hair.

Which historical event do you wish never happened?

DL: The Hindenburg Airship disaster of 1937.

There we have it folks! A glimpse into the lives of The Jump Off members. Back in November of 2013, these rockin’ guys released their debut full-length album The Jump Off. So, if you want to get to know them even more, give their 11-track album a listen!
