Noticing these things brings me joy: Small acts of kindness, like someone holding a door open or sharing a smile, bring me joy.
Kevin O’Connor hails from Windsor, Ont., where as a boy he delivered the Windsor Star. He has been involved in Saskatchewan journalism for 38 years. He was a reporter and columnist with the Regina Leader-Post before joining CBC Saskatchewan in 2004. He has also reported for the Toronto Star and Time Magazine. He was an assignment producer when he retired from CBC earlier this year.

Favourite class in the last year: Psyc 101 with Dr Shadi Beshai- Introductory psychology- Social, development and clinical focus- I've always had an affinity to unravel the intricacies of the human mind, memory and brain.
Would love to teach: I would teach a "Cat 101" course to explore the innate behaviors of the different cat breeds, their body language and their bond with humans.
Go-to work music: "Paradise" by Maher Zain- This Islamic song invites reflection on the ultimate destination sought by believers, which is paradise where souls are embraced by eternal bliss.
If given the chance to master 1 new skill without effort, it would be: Interpret the unique vocalizations of each and every cat
Noticing these things brings me joy: Moments with my family and pet cats, feel of fresh air early in the morning and sense of peace around.
If given the chance to change the world with a snap, I'd change: I would like to change the mentality of people where everyone feels safe to live and thrive in a compassionate and empathy-driven society.

If given the chance to change the world with a snap, I'd change: Improve the financial situation for everyone who needs it.

Would love to teach: I think teaching a class on the effects on fan-culture and the internet on adolescents would be pretty fascinating. Stan Twitter 101?
Go-to music to listen to while working: I listen to all sorts of things to keep me busy while I work! Somedays it's synthwave, somedays it's folk, sometimes it's punk, and sometimes it's pop! Whatever will keep me in the productive groove.
If given the chance to master 1 new skill without effort, it would be: The ability to learn any language (in a perfect world programming languages count here too…)
Noticing these things brings me joy: My friends and family know how much I love seeing interesting and unique designs out in the world. Whether it's man-made or natural, if it has an interesting shape, texture, color, or pattern to it, it's immediately taking up space in my camera roll.
If given the chance to change the world with a snap, I'd change: Fear and intolerance. Maybe a bit of a basic answer, but it's a classic for a reason; I think it'd probably solve the majority of the world's problems.

Noticing these things brings me joy: Sunsets, my nieces exploring the world around them,
Dogs, Terry the Squirrel who lives outside my dorm, Art the Clown memes and when hockey
goalies take their gloves off but still wear all their gear so their hands look really tiny.

for everyone, and end animal cruelty.

Noticing these things brings me joy: Time with family and friends, as well as the neighbourhood cats.
If given the chance to change the world with a snap, I'd change: I'd love to spread more awareness about chronic illnesses and find more accessible treatment options for them, since chronically ill individuals suffer too much in society.

Noticing these things brings me joy: seeing people excited over something silly. People owning themselves rather than trying to fit into a mold society created for them.
If given a chance to change something in the world: Being able to make choices for yourself would be fundamental right, and not a luxury regardless of what part of the world you live in.
