Hello everyone!
Welcome to another op-ed pitch list. As always, these are some of my ideas for articles in the coming week, but if there is something you really want to write about that I haven’t included, please reach out to me and we can talk about it to see if it fits our publication. If you feel you have something to add to any of the past articles in this section, you are welcome to pitch those ideas as well.

Make sure that you mention in your email which topic you want to write on, what your perspective is going to be, the length your article will be (half page articles are 550-750 words, full page are 950-1,150 words), and any support we can offer you such as help finding resources, counterpoints to your argument, or arranging the flow of information in your article. If you’d like to submit your own image to be considered for the article you pitch, please mention that as well.
What’s happening in Gaza?
It took a significant amount of time for the international community to label Israel’s war crimes in the Gaza Strip as “genocide”. But is it enough? The world seems to be desensitized by any news related to Palestine. Has the global population given up on Gaza? What do you think about the new Naza documentary by two Israeli film makers? What are your views on Canada alongside France and U.K banning trade from Israeli illegal settlements in the West Bank?
Write a first person opinion article regarding your views on the Palestine-Israel conflict. Whether you’re a Palestinian student at University of Regina, a professor who happens to be an expert in global politics, or just a person who has opinions on the topic. What do you think about the new world map?
The new world map adopted by the United Nations depicts the actual size of Africa and replaces the 16-century Mercator map. In the assembly 164 countries voted in the favor except the U.S. What are your thoughts about that? Is it fair to continue using a map which can have an incorrect educational impact?
You can be an expert in geography and tell us opinions backed by the theories or you can just happen to be an individual who feels passionately about this new world map!

How has your university experience been thus far?
This one is specifically for the first year students! The Carillon wants to hear from the U of R’s newbies about this crucial step of their lives. How have the classes been? Are the professors as scary as you had imagined or a little more? What do you think about all the restaurants or the study space at the U of R? Have all these different university services been helpful in guiding you to the right path?

Let’s dissect some of the most popular films of all-time!
Write an opinion piece about your most or least favourite cinematic masterpiece, such as the Dead poets society or The Notebook (These are my most liked films, yours can be different). Why do you like or dislike the film? Is it the cast that made you fall in love with the film or was it the brilliant storyline? Was the idea good but the poor execution made it a flop? Why was the film so popular when it first appeared and why are you immune to its charm? Watch the film, take some notes, maybe ask someone who has watched the film their opinion and write about it.
